 PORT CHARLOTTE, FL – A shooting near Applebee’s on Sandhill Boulevard just after 5:00 p.m. has resulted in significant police activity and widespread road closures. The incident, currently under investigation, appears to have spanned multiple locations, including Popeyes and RaceTrac on Kings Highway. Emergency Medical Services (EMS) were quick to respond, and deputies are actively searching the area for any injuries or damage caused by stray bullets.


Authorities have cordoned off a large crime scene, extending from Kings Highway to Capricorn Boulevard on Sandhill Boulevard, affecting traffic and causing concern among residents in the Deep Creek neighborhood. Unconfirmed reports suggest that the incident may have started near the Sunseeker Resort, where the suspect allegedly shot a deputy before fleeing to Sandhill Boulevard. A confrontation with law enforcement ensued near Popeyes, leading to a shootout in which the suspect sustained injuries and was subsequently airlifted to Gulf Coast Medical Center in Fort Myers for treatment.


The condition of the deputy who was reportedly shot remains unclear, although earlier reports indicated that CPR was administered in an attempt to resuscitate.
