Deputy Shot in Line of Duty; Manhunt Underway for Armed Suspect in Kentucky

BRECKINRIDGE COUNTY, Kentucky - A manhunt is underway for Julio Morales Ceballos, a 53-year-old man identified by Kentucky State Police (KSP) as the suspect in a shooting that left a Breckinridge County Sheriff's deputy injured. The incident occurred during a response to a domestic call on Saturday night, escalating into a situation where law enforcement now considers Morales, also known simply as Julio Morales, both armed and dangerous.

Morales was last seen in dark clothing, adding to the urgency of the search as the night's darkness could have provided him with cover. The search, which began immediately after the shooting, has not paused, extending through the night and into the day with the aid of advanced technology and manpower. Trooper Scotty Sharp of KSP has confirmed that the operation involves both the Breckinridge County Sheriff’s Office and KSP, utilizing drones and the KSP Aviation Branch to intensify the search efforts.

The shooting took place when the deputy was responding to what was reported as a domestic incident, a situation that unfortunately escalated, resulting in the deputy receiving non-life-threatening injuries. The deputy has since been treated and is recovering, but the focus remains on capturing Morales to prevent any further incidents or harm to the community.

The use of drones in this manhunt highlights the evolving landscape of law enforcement tactics, where technology plays a pivotal role in tracking suspects in potentially dangerous or dense areas. The KSP Aviation Branch's involvement further underscores the seriousness of the situation, providing aerial support that can cover vast areas of terrain quickly, something critical in rugged or forested landscapes like those in Breckinridge County.

Local residents have been urged to remain vigilant and report any sightings or information related to Morales to law enforcement immediately. The community has been advised to lock their doors and stay alert, as Morales is believed to be desperate and possibly still armed. The presence of such a suspect on the loose naturally instills a sense of caution among the local populace, with many likely feeling the weight of the situation as law enforcement works tirelessly to bring it to a close.

As the search continues, the coordination between local sheriff’s offices and state police exemplifies the collaborative approach often necessary in such dire circumstances. The effort to apprehend Morales is not just about justice for the injured deputy but also about ensuring the safety and peace of mind of Breckinridge County residents.

The incident has undoubtedly put a spotlight on the risks law enforcement officers face daily, particularly when responding to domestic disturbances, which can unpredictably turn violent. It also serves as a reminder of the community's role in aiding law enforcement, whether through direct assistance or by maintaining a heightened state of awareness.

As this story develops, updates from the Kentucky State Police and local authorities will be crucial. For now, the community waits in hope that this unsettling chapter will soon conclude with Morales in custody, allowing the healing process to begin for all affected by this violent act.
