67-Year-Old Durham Resident Dies in Wrong-Way Collision

 


Dawn Tucker, a 67-year-old resident of Durham, North Carolina, has been identified as the victim in a tragic wrong-way crash that occurred on Saturday evening. The devastating incident, which resulted in Tucker's death and left three others injured, took place shortly before 7 p.m. on North Roxboro Street, as reported by the Durham Police.


The wrong-way driver involved in the crash has been identified as 42-year-old Nathane Blackmon of Erwin. According to authorities, Blackmon was driving a 2011 GMC Yukon northbound when the vehicle crossed all travel lanes into oncoming traffic. The Yukon then collided with Tucker's southbound 2009 Honda Accord and a 2000 Chevy Silverado, which was also traveling southbound.


Tucker, who was a retired school teacher, sustained severe injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital. Despite the efforts of medical personnel, she later succumbed to her injuries. A passenger in her vehicle was also seriously injured but fortunately did not suffer life-threatening injuries and is currently receiving treatment at the hospital.


Blackmon, who sustained non-life-threatening injuries, was taken to a local hospital for medical care. He has since been charged with driving while impaired (DWI), driving left of center, and failing to wear a seatbelt. Authorities have indicated that additional charges may be forthcoming as their investigation continues.


The driver of the Chevy Silverado experienced minor injuries and did not require hospitalization. The crash caused significant disruption to traffic in the area as police conducted a thorough investigation into the circumstances leading to the collision.
