Man Dead, Boy Critically Injured as Car Crashes into Los Feliz Apartment

In the early hours of Wednesday morning, a catastrophic car accident in Los Angeles's Los Feliz neighborhood resulted in the death of a 59-year-old man and left a young boy seriously injured. The incident took place at approximately 1:38 a.m. when a sedan lost control on Western Avenue, crashing into an apartment building located at 1836 N. Western Ave., south of Franklin Avenue.

The victim, identified by the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office as Mahammad Humbatov, was found trapped beneath the vehicle inside the apartment. Despite the rapid response from the Los Angeles Fire Department, Humbatov was declared deceased at the scene. A 9-year-old boy, also caught in the wreckage, suffered serious injuries and was immediately transported to a local hospital for urgent medical attention. The driver of the car, a 34-year-old woman, sustained minor injuries and was hospitalized; her part in the accident is currently being scrutinized by investigators, though specifics regarding the cause of the crash remain undisclosed.

The impact of the sedan not only claimed lives but also caused significant structural damage to the apartment building, leading to the displacement of seven residents. In response, the Red Cross along with local officials have stepped in to provide assistance to those affected. Engineers are evaluating the integrity of the building to assess if and when it will be safe for residents to return.

This tragic event has cast a somber mood over the Los Feliz community, prompting a collective reflection on road safety and the sudden tragedies that can befall any neighborhood.
