CHICAGO, IL – A 35-year-old man was shot and killed late Thursday night while driving through the Lawndale neighborhood on the city’s West Side, according to the Chicago Police Department.
The fatal shooting occurred just after 11:30 p.m. in the 1200 block of South Sawyer Avenue.
Authorities reported that the victim was traveling inside a vehicle when an unidentified individual on foot opened fire.
In an apparent attempt to escape the gunfire, the victim’s vehicle collided with two parked cars.
Emergency responders transported the victim to Mt. Sinai Hospital, where he was pronounced deceased due to gunshot wounds to the torso and head.
The Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office later identified the victim as 35-year-old Tyrone Booker.
At this time, no suspects are in custody, and the investigation remains ongoing under the direction of Area Four detectives.
Authorities have not yet provided additional details regarding the circumstances of the shooting or a potential motive.
