Conyers, Georgia — A manhunt entered its third day as police search for 21-year-old Amir Johnson, the suspect wanted in the fatal shooting of 22-year-old Kaleb King early this week at an apartment on Forest Villa Drive. Officers and federal partners are urging anyone with information to step forward as authorities piece together what led to the deadly violence.
On Tuesday evening, Conyers police responded to a call about gunfire inside a home in the Forest Villa apartments off Irwin Bridge Road. Inside, they found Kaleb King with multiple gunshot wounds. Medics pronounced him dead at the scene.
Investigators have identified Amir Johnson as the prime suspect in the shooting. He is facing charges including felony murder and aggravated assault, and remains at large. Authorities describe him as dangerous and ask that the public not attempt to confront him.
According to family members and neighbors, King was at the apartment hanging out with friends when Johnson arrived. One witness told local media that Johnson forced his way inside and opened fire, sending people scrambling for safety.
Terrified residents, including children, were inside the home when the shooting happened. Surveillance video from the scene shows people rushing out in panic before anyone called 911. The loss has left the community shaken.
Crime Stoppers Greater Atlanta and the Conyers Police Department have jointly offered a $10,000 reward for information leading to Johnson’s arrest — $5,000 from Crime Stoppers and an additional $5,000 from local law enforcement. The U.S. Marshals Service has also joined the search.
Family members describe King as a quiet, kind young man who didn’t deserve such a violent end. They hope that someone will come forward so his loved ones can at least find some closure.
