25-Year-Old Sought After Fatal Shooting of Known Victim in Quiet Chalmette Neighborhood

In the quiet neighborhood of Chalmette, Louisiana, a somber atmosphere has enveloped the community following a deadly shooting incident on East Solidelle Street. On the evening of January 12, 2025, around 6:40 PM, a violent act unfolded that has since led to an intensive investigation by local law enforcement.

The St. Bernard Sheriff's Office has issued an arrest warrant for Jermaine Cole Jr., a 25-year-old resident of New Orleans, in connection with this tragic event. Cole Jr. is currently wanted on charges of second-degree murder and obstruction of justice, following the death of 32-year-old Roberto Williams.

The incident was reported when deputies responded to calls about gunshots in the area. Upon arrival, they discovered Williams suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Despite immediate medical attention and being rushed to a nearby hospital, Williams succumbed to his injuries. Sheriff James Pohlmann has confirmed the identity of both the suspect and the victim, noting that they were known to each other, which adds a layer of personal tragedy to this already grievous event.

The shooting has not only left a family in mourning but has also sparked concern among Chalmette residents about safety in their community. The neighborhood, usually peaceful, is now grappling with the reality of violence at its doorstep. Local residents have expressed shock and sadness, with many offering condolences to Williams' family and calling for swift justice.

Law enforcement has been actively involved since the incident, with Sheriff Pohlmann emphasizing that this was an isolated event with no additional injuries reported. However, the community remains on high alert as the manhunt for Cole Jr. continues.

The motives behind the shooting remain under investigation, but early indications from the scene suggest it might have stemmed from personal disputes. The St. Bernard Sheriff’s Office has been tight-lipped about specific details to not jeopardize the ongoing investigation, though they have urged anyone with information to come forward.

This incident has prompted discussions about gun violence in Chalmette, a topic that local leaders and community activists are eager to address. There's a growing call for community policing strategies, improved mental health services, and youth engagement programs to prevent such tragedies from recurring.

As the investigation progresses, the Sheriff's Office is working with multiple agencies to apprehend Cole Jr., whose whereabouts are currently unknown. The community has been advised to remain vigilant but not to approach Cole Jr. if sighted; instead, they should immediately contact law enforcement.

This case underscores the broader issues of gun violence and community safety in small towns, highlighting the need for a collaborative approach between residents and law enforcement to foster a safer environment. The loss of Roberto Williams has left a void in the community, and as the legal process unfolds, there is a collective hope among Chalmette's residents for healing and justice.

The Sheriff's Office has committed to providing updates as new developments arise, ensuring that the public remains informed while the pursuit for justice continues. This incident serves as a grim reminder of the impact of violence on small communities and the urgent need for preventive measures and community solidarity.
