According to Emily Heenan, a representative for the city of Doraville, the consulate is situated on the ground floor of a two-story office building. The victim, identified as 45-year-old Jesús Loera, was a Mexican national employed by a private security company contracted by the consulate. Loera was confronted by the suspect, who attempted to enter the consulate armed with a gun, despite not having an appointment.
In a heroic effort, Loera managed to close the door, preventing the suspect from entering the building. However, he was subsequently shot five times and succumbed to his injuries. The suspect, whose nationality has not been officially confirmed but is believed to be Honduran, was detained by authorities and is currently under questioning.
Foreign Minister Eduardo Enrique Reina expressed his condolences to Loera's family during a press conference in Honduras, praising his efforts to safeguard the consulate.
